Introduction to IOPLY's Science Popularization

Aiming at "Defining New Coordinates in Science", we integrate high-quality science resources from all sides to build practice bases for science education and cultural and creative industry, as well as national education bases for scientific research and science popularization.

With a focus on innovation and communication of science and culture, as well as science-education integration, we have long carried out science and technology exchanges and science popularization activities. We are committed to becoming a science popularization hub based on the Yangtze River Delta and covering the whole country.

携手科学,享受当夏|第一届IOPLY“悟理“科学夏令营圆满落幕

2022年8月8日至10日,IOPLY“悟理”科学夏令营于长三角物理研究中心四号楼三层沙龙区起航。来自北京大学、浙江大学、中国科学院大学、上海科技大学、江南大学以及中国科学院物理研究所和心理研究所的11位老师为溧阳地区180余名高中学生带来了多场精彩纷呈的科学报告。

为进一步贯彻落实《全民科学素质行动规划纲要(2021-2035年)》,加强科普供给侧改革,提升优质科普内容资源创作和传播能力,重点扶持青年科普创作人才成长,中国科普作家协会在全国范围内组织实施“科普中国青年之星创作大赛”活动,开展科普创作培训及优秀科普作品征集遴选。

院士专家进校园

2022年7月5日,中国科学院理论所所长蔡荣根院士应长三角物理研究中心“院士专家进校园”活动的邀请,来到江苏省溧阳中学为同学们带来一场题为“黑洞:前世今生”的报告。江苏省溧阳中学副校长蒋易华以及实验班近100名同学参加了此次活动。

We also aim to improve the national scientific literacy, cultivate the public, especially the youth's scientific thinking, further guide and cultivate the youth's interest in science, promote the significance of high-level technology for self-reliance and self-improvement, and cultivate a good style of study.

 To implement the Law of the People's Republic of China on Popularization of Science and Technology and the Outline of the National Action Plan for Scientific Literacy (2021-2035), the following systems are formulated to further stimulate the enthusiasm of residents and students to learn and spread science, improve the scientific and cultural literacy of the public, establish and improve mechanisms for popularizing sci-tech resources, strengthen the sense of responsibility of the main body of sci-tech innovation, give full play to sci-tech facilities for science popularization, and promote the development of science popularization in IOPLY.

1.Science popularization bases shall organize activities that spread healthy ideas, science and technology, and cultural knowledge for social progress; that carry forward the spirit of scientists, enrich the cultural life of teenage students, improve moral quality, and promote cultural exchange. In addition, science popularization and education need to be scientific, popular and interesting.

2.Science popularization bases shall carry out unique and effective activities in line with IOPLY's public service platform and development focus; explore new ideas and methods for base construction and activity organization, strive to develop and innovate, and strengthen cooperation with universities and colleges, primary and secondary schools and youth activity centers.

3.Science education bases shall be under standardized and institutionalized management. IOPLY shall list the work of science popularization on the agenda of the director's office meeting to manage funds for science popularization activities. A leader in charge shall be responsible for the clear division of responsibilities, research and deployment of popular science work and activities. There shall be a work plan and implementation at the beginning of the year, and a work summary at the end of the year. It is necessary to accumulate experience, make active communication and discussion with bases under mature operation, do better work, provide more and better science education, and make youth science education activities scientific, useful, interesting, inspiring and participatory.

4.A team that loves science popularization shall be established. Each platform and scientist lab of IOPLY shall recommend a liaison officer to participate in the planning and execution of science popularization activities. It is also necessary to expand the team and introduce more teachers who love science popularization to the bases.

5.There shall be archival data made of text, photos and videos of science popularization activities, as well as detailed records of the reception time, organization name, number of visitors and activities. Necessary materials shall be improved and important activities shall be recorded. In addition, greater promotion of science popularization activities and bases are needed to make the public learn more about and participate in such activities.

6.Bases shall improve their conditions and upgrade their activity venues. According to the development trend of science and technology, the bases shall also promote and increase their projects, replace the instruments and themes of science exhibitions, and improve the means of science education.

7.Science popularization bases shall publicize and report the relevant information of their activities through the news media, so as to attract more teenage students and teachers to participate in the activities.

8.Open System

1)IOPLY shall be open to the public no less than 150 days a year and receives no less than 2,200 visitors of all kinds. In particular, bases shall be open to the public during large-scale national science popularization activities such as NSTW, Science Popularization Week, and Public Science Day held by the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

2)IOPLY shall provide the following services in science popularization: a. visit to IOPLY's exhibition hall; b. practical activity class; c. science popularization skills training for primary and secondary school teachers; d. popular science lectures on campus; e. academic lectures.

3)Basic requirements for IOPLY's external activities: participate in organizing no less than 4 large-scale science popularization activities every year, with an audience of no less than 2,000 people.

9. Assessment System

1) IOPLY shall review the science popularization work plan at the beginning of each year, check and guide the plan in the middle of each year, and submit the summary at the end of each year;

2) A training session for full-time and part-time science popularization staff shall be made once a year to promote their professional skills and exchanges.

10. Incentive System

IOPLY shall set up a special fund to reward outstanding staff (full-time and part-time) and students who take an active part in science popularization activities.

Safety Plan

In order to ensure the safe and smooth implementation of the events, special personnel are arranged to be responsible for the safety management of each link, formulate safety plans, clarify safety responsibilities and strengthen preventive measures to ensure public safety. Besides, the center is committed to accomplishing the following safety tasks:

1.We will strictly monitor the activity contents. The center promises to implement the planned activities strictly without changing the contents, and resolutely avoid illegal contents and statements that violate the Party's principles and policies and socialist morality.

2.We will guarantee the safety of the venues and facilities. The center promises that the surroundings of the venues for the activities are free of safety hazards and meets the needs of student activities. The center promises that the facilities and equipment of the venues are in line with national safety standards, and safety signs and evacuation signs are posted at places including the experimental venues, the corridors of the buildings. The width of indoor safety passages, and the longitudinal channel between the laboratory tables is not less than 700mm. The safety of electricity is guaranteed with effective grounding and leakage protection devices on electrical equipment. Indoor illumination meets relevant standards (including blackboard and desktop). Furthermore, the center promises to set isolation or protection devices and post warning signs for equipment of high temperature, high voltage, ultra-low temperature and high-speed rotation, as well as equipment with sharp edges or points.

3. We will provide all necessary safety equipment. The center promises to provide goggles, gloves and protective clothing for students who use experimental equipment of high temperature, high voltage, ultra-low temperature and high-speed rotation, as well as equipment with sharp edges or points, and strong acid, strong alkali and toxic experimental drugs, and strictly require students to wear them. In addition, fire extinguishers and other safety devices are equipped near the experimental venues.

4. We will strictly adhere to the operating procedures. The center promises to develop a standardized experimental protocol for activities. During the practical activities, the students are required to follow the procedures and the center will guide them not to violate the operating procedures. The center will stop students timely in case of violations in their work and instruct them to operate correctly.

5. We will carry out strict site management. The center promises that students will be accompanied and guided throughout the hands-on process and will not be left unattended. Apart from that, the center will maintain good order during the activities, prevent accidents caused by disorder and do our best to monitor the whole activity process by video surveillance.

6. We will enhance communication. The center promises to deal with emergencies in case of any accident during the events, and report to the safety manager for scientific activities downtown immediately, without delay or concealment.
